How many prop firm accounts can you have? Limits by firm
Account caps and maximum funded allocation at seven prop firms, plus the rules on copying trades between your own accounts and merging accounts.

Running several prop firm accounts is common. It can spread costs or let you trade more size than one account allows. But every firm we track caps it at some stage. Some limit the number of funded accounts. Others limit total simulated capital. A few do both. This guide sets out the limits at the seven firms we track, plus the rules on copying trades and combining accounts.
Every limit below comes from the firm's official site or help center, checked on 3 November 2026. Limits change often, so confirm them before you buy a second account.
Two kinds of limit
Firms cap multiple accounts in two ways:
- Account count: a maximum number of active accounts, often only at the funded stage.
- Maximum allocation: a cap on total simulated capital across all your accounts, whatever their number.
Evaluations are usually treated more loosely than funded accounts. Several firms let you buy as many challenges as you like but cap how many can move to the funded stage. Check both numbers before you buy.
Why firms set these limits
Firms pay out on simulated results. Several accounts trading the same strategy multiply the firm's exposure to one trader. Limits keep that exposure in check. They also stop traders from getting around the rules by registering under different names. FTMO's FAQ says doing so is strictly prohibited.
Account limits by firm
FTMO
FTMO's account limits FAQ says there is no limit to the number of accounts. Instead it caps capital:
- Total capital across all accounts and products is limited to $400,000 per trader or strategy, before scaling.
- Equivalent caps apply in other currencies, such as €320,000 and £280,000.
- The limit can rise under its Premium Programme.
- Only one active FTMO Instant Account is allowed.
FTMO watches for substantially similar trading across accounts, including copied signals. If the total then exceeds its limits, it may suspend the affected accounts. Its scaling plan lists a separate maximum of $2,000,000 across your FTMO accounts.
FundedNext
FundedNext's account limits article sets no fixed account count. It caps aggregate simulated capital at $300,000 across Stellar 1-Step, 2-Step and Lite accounts.
- Traders in some countries have a lower $50,000 cap. The article names Cambodia, Mongolia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Taiwan, Ukraine, the Czech Republic and Pakistan.
- The cap does not apply to buying Challenge Accounts. It applies when accounts move to the FundedNext Phase.
- Accounts beyond the cap are paused. If a funded account breaches, a paused account can move up.
FundedNext's own example: a trader passes five $100,000 challenges, but only three can move to the funded stage.
The5ers
The5ers sets limits per program:
- Bootcamp: its FAQ allows 4 active Bootcamp accounts in total. That means one $250K, one $100K and two $20K accounts. Each account must use a different trading method.
- High Stakes: the program page lists maximum active accounts by size. On the Classic version that is one account at each of $2.5K, $5K, $10K or $25K, and $50K or $100K.
- Hyper Growth: the program page caps total evaluation capital at $40,000 per trader.
The pages do not fully agree. The High Stakes page says these accounts can run alongside 3 Bootcamp accounts and 4 Pro accounts. The Bootcamp FAQ allows 4 Bootcamp accounts. Ask The5ers support before you rely on either number.
Topstep
Topstep's help center sets these limits:
- No limit on active Trading Combines.
- Up to five active Express Funded Accounts at once. Extra accounts stay pending until you close one.
- One active Live Funded Account. Express Funded balances moved to Live are added to it, once each account receives an offer to move.
All accounts must sit under one Topstep profile.
Tradeify
Tradeify's common FAQs set these limits:
- Up to 5 Funded accounts per household.
- Only one Tradeify account per user. Personal and business accounts cannot be held in parallel.
- Sim and Live accounts cannot be active at the same time.
Its pricing reference also limits Select evaluations to 15 purchases per 30-day period.
My Funded Futures
My Funded Futures' help center limits Sim-Funded accounts by size:
- Up to five active Sim-Funded Accounts if you hold only $25K and $50K accounts.
- A maximum of three across all sizes and plans if you hold any $100K or $150K account.
- Only one Studio account at a time, in Evaluation or Sim Funded.
Take Profit Trader
Take Profit Trader's help center says you can hold as many Test accounts as you want. You can hold up to three PRO or PRO+ accounts at once, in any mix. The same article says you can activate up to 6 passed Tests within 30 calendar days. Ask support how that works alongside the three-account cap.
Copy trading between your own accounts
Using a trade copier across your own accounts is a separate question from account limits. Firms answer it differently:
- FundedNext allows copying between your own Challenge Accounts, up to $300,000 combined. A VPS-based copier is allowed. Cloud copiers are not. Copying involving a funded FundedNext Account is prohibited, even for the same owner.
- Topstep's multiple-accounts article says you can copy trade up to five accounts, for up to $750,000 of buying power. Taking opposite trades across accounts to hedge is prohibited.
- My Funded Futures says it allows copy trading across all account types. It names Tradesyncer as its preferred copier and mentions Tradovate's group copier. Copying another trader is banned.
- FTMO counts substantially similar trading across accounts toward its $400,000 limit.
- The5ers requires a different trading method on each active Bootcamp account. That rules out copying identical trades across them.
- Tradeify and Take Profit Trader: we could not find a clear own-account copier rule on the official pages we checked. Check the firm's site or ask support.
Copying between your own accounts is a different matter from copying other traders. Several firms ban copying between people outright. Our guide to EA, bot and copy trading rules covers this.
Combining or merging accounts
Few firms let you merge accounts. FTMO is the clearest case. Its merge FAQ sets these conditions:
- Only FTMO Accounts can be merged, not challenges.
- The accounts must be unused, with no trade executed. Withdrawing your reward can reset an account to this state.
- They must share a base currency and come from the same product.
- Merging a Swing account with a Standard account produces a Standard account.
- The merged account gets the combined balance, with drawdown limits adjusted to match. A merge cannot be undone.
Topstep consolidates differently. Express Funded balances moved to Live are added to your single Live Funded Account. FundedNext's copy trading article says merged accounts share the same $300,000 maximum. For other firms, check the firm's site before assuming a merge is possible.
Is running several accounts a good idea?
It can be, but it multiplies risk as well as reward. Copied accounts lose together. A bad day breaches every account at once, not just one. Keep these points in mind:
- Pass and manage one account well before adding more.
- Size each account to its own loss limits. Our position size calculator works per account.
- Count total fees, including monthly subscriptions and activation fees, across all accounts.
- Never hedge between accounts. Topstep, Tradeify and My Funded Futures all prohibit it.
- Keep records of which account each trade was placed on. Topstep warns it is not responsible for trades on the wrong account.

Common questions
Can I have funded accounts at more than one prop firm?
The limits above apply within each firm. Holding accounts at several firms is a separate matter. Check each firm's terms, as some ban sharing a strategy or bot with other firms. Tradeify, for example, requires that an algorithm is not shared with other firms.
Do challenge accounts count toward the allocation limit?
It depends on the firm. FundedNext says its $300,000 cap does not apply to buying Challenge Accounts. FTMO's limit covers all accounts and products. Topstep sets no limit on Trading Combines.
Does scaling count toward the maximum allocation?
Often not. FTMO's $400,000 limit applies before scaling, and its scaling plan has its own $2,000,000 ceiling. Check how your firm treats scaled balances.
What happens if I exceed the limit?
Firms usually pause or hold the extra accounts. FundedNext pauses accounts beyond its cap. Topstep keeps extra Express Funded Accounts pending. FTMO may suspend accounts if similar trading pushes capital over its limits.
