How to Get Your First Prop Firm Payout

Passing a challenge does not put money in your account. Between the pass and the first withdrawal sit several gates: activation, identity checks, waiting periods, buffers, consistency rules and the payout request itself. This guide walks through each gate in order, with the current rules at the seven firms we review. Everything was checked on official sites and help centers on 3 November 2026.

For the theory behind splits, caps and buffers, read our payout rules explainer. This guide is the practical timeline.

Step 1: Activate the funded account

Most firms ask you to accept a new agreement before the funded account opens. Some also charge a fee here.

  • Topstep: you click "Activate Express Funded Account", choose the Standard or Consistency payout type, sign the XFA Agreement and, on the Standard Path, pay the $149 activation fee. Topstep says a pass can take up to 30 minutes to show on your dashboard.
  • My Funded Futures: you get a confirmation email once your end-of-day balance shows the pass. A brief review may apply, typically under 24 hours. You then upgrade from the dashboard.
  • Take Profit Trader: its homepage lists a one-time $130 fee for the PRO account, unless your code waives it.

Pick your payout type carefully at this step. At Topstep, Standard and Consistency have different eligibility rules and caps for the life of the account.

Step 2: Complete identity verification

Every firm here whose terms we could confirm requires verification before it pays. Start KYC early, because a rejected document can add days.

  • FTMO: FTMO Identity becomes available once you meet all Trading Objectives. If you already hold a valid FTMO Identity, you are not asked again.
  • FundedNext: KYC is required after passing the Stellar challenge phases. You can trade while it is pending, but you cannot receive rewards until it shows Approved. It accepts a national ID, passport or residence permit, plus a live selfie.
  • Tradeify: KYC is required before your first payout. Rise payout verification is a separate step on top.
  • My Funded Futures: you submit KYC in the dashboard and sign agreements through Riseworks before your first payout.
  • Topstep: identity verification is required before your second purchase. A W-9 or W-8BEN is submitted with the payout request, and payouts only go to a bank account in your own name.
  • The5ers and Take Profit Trader: we could not find their KYC timing on the pages we checked. Check the firm's site.

Step 3: Meet the waiting period or minimum days

This is where firms differ most. Some count calendar days, some count winning days, and some have no wait at all.

  • Take Profit Trader: withdrawals are available from day one on PRO, with no minimum number of profitable days.
  • My Funded Futures Rapid: first payout 24 hours after your first trade on the sim funded account. Pro waits 14 calendar days from the first trade.
  • Tradeify: Growth needs 5 trading days with profit above a set amount ($150 on the 50K). Select Flex needs 5 winning days. Select Daily and Lightning have no minimum day count.
  • Topstep: the Standard XFA needs 5 winning days of $150 or more. The Consistency XFA needs 3 trading days with at least one trade each.
  • FundedNext: Stellar 1-Step pays every 5 business days from the first cycle. Lite allows the first reward 10 business days after you start trading. 2-Step waits 21 days, then every 14 days.
  • FTMO: you can request your first reward on the 14th day after your first trade, with all positions closed.
  • The5ers: the first withdrawal is allowed 14 days after the funded account is activated, then every 2 weeks.

FundedNext notes that Lite accounts bought or reset before 12 October 2026 keep the older 21-day rule.

Step 4: Clear the buffer

Futures firms with trailing drawdown often make you build profit before you can withdraw. This protects the account from sitting right on its loss limit after a payout.

My Funded Futures Rapid 50K

On the Rapid 50K, you must build at least $2,100 in realized profit before requesting any payout. You must always keep at least $100 in the account, and the minimum request is $500. Check MFF's payout policy for how much of the buffer you can withdraw.

Tradeify Growth 50K

The balance must reach $53,000 and stay there until the request is approved. The first request is capped at $1,500, with a $500 minimum.

Worked example: your balance is $53,400 after six profitable days. You request the $1,500 cap. Tradeify pays 90%, so you receive $1,350. Your balance drops to $51,900. The locked floor on this account is $50,100, so you still have $1,800 of room.

Topstep XFA 50K

Topstep has no separate buffer, but the payout itself changes your risk. Each request is capped at 50% of the balance, up to $2,000 on the Standard 50K. After the first payout, the Maximum Loss Limit is set to $0 permanently.

Worked example: your XFA balance is $2,600 after five winning days. 50% of that is $1,300, under the $2,000 cap. You keep 90%, so you receive $1,170, less any method fee. Your balance falls to $1,300, and with the limit now at $0, that $1,300 is all the room you have.

Take Profit Trader PRO

TPT's help center says the buffer equals your maximum drawdown amount. Profits above the buffer can be withdrawn without restriction. Withdrawing from inside the buffer is possible but ends the account.

Worked example: our database lists a $2,000 drawdown on the 50K Test. If your PRO account carries the same $2,000, the buffer is $2,000. With $3,000 of profit, $1,000 sits above the buffer. At an 80% split, you receive $800.

Our drawdown calculator shows how a withdrawal moves you towards the floor.

Step 5: Pass the consistency check

Several firms cap how much of your profit can come from one day before they pay.

  • Topstep Consistency XFA: your best day must stay at or below 40% of total net profit.
  • Tradeify: 35% on Growth funded. Lightning uses 20% for the first payout, 25% for the second and 30% after that.
  • My Funded Futures: no consistency rule for Rapid payouts. Builder payouts require staying within 50%.
  • The5ers: 50% consistency applies on the funded account of its 2-Step plan.
  • FundedNext: only the optional On-Demand reward on 2-Step and Lite needs 40% trade consistency and 2% growth.

Worked example at Topstep: your best day is $900 and total net profit is $2,000. That is 45%, so you are not yet eligible. You need total profit of at least $900 ÷ 0.40 = $2,250. Our consistency calculator does this for you. For the full mechanics, see the consistency rule guide.

Step 6: Request the payout and choose a method

Methods, fees and processing times vary. Fees can matter on a small first payout.

  • FTMO: bank wire, Visa Direct or Mastercard Send (up to $20,000), Skrill (up to $3,000) and crypto. FTMO reviews within 1–2 business days and charges no withdrawal commission. Official FAQ.
  • FundedNext: USDT, USDC, RiseWorks, bank transfer and card. Rewards are issued within 24 hours. Transfer gateway charges are yours.
  • The5ers: Rise, crypto, bank transfer or Hub Credits. Rise, crypto and bank carry a 3.5% commission, and crypto is capped at $1,500 per withdrawal. Processing takes up to 3 business days.
  • Topstep: $125 minimum. ACH and international wire cost $30. Aeropay, Wise and Prop-to-Brokerage carry no Topstep fee. Internal approval can take 1–3 business days. Official policy.
  • Tradeify: paid through Riseworks and Plane, by bank or crypto. PayPal is not supported. Usually processed within 24 hours once Rise onboarding is done.
  • My Funded Futures: paid through Riseworks by bank or crypto. Plaid and ACH are US only. Processing takes 6–12 business hours.
  • Take Profit Trader: Plaid (US bank accounts), PayPal or Wise, typically within one business day. PRO pays 80/20 and PRO+ pays 90/10.

The fastest and slowest routes

On paper, Take Profit Trader PRO and My Funded Futures Rapid are the quickest, with day-one and 24-hour eligibility. Both still need profit above a buffer first. FundedNext 2-Step, at 21 days, has the longest wait to a first reward among the programs listed above.

A fast schedule does not guarantee a fast payout. The buffer, your trading results and KYC usually take longer than the calendar rule. Funded accounts at these firms are typically simulated, and payouts follow each firm's own policy.

Common questions

How long does a first prop firm payout take?

It ranges from about a day to several weeks after funding. The waiting rule is only part of it. Add time for KYC, building any buffer and processing.

Can I withdraw my whole profit on the first payout?

Usually not. Caps, buffers and minimum balances limit the first request at most futures firms. At Topstep, a request is capped at 50% of the XFA balance.

Are there forms or fees on a payout?

Topstep collects a W-9 or W-8BEN with the request. Method fees vary, from none at FTMO to 3.5% on most methods at The5ers. Tax rules depend on where you live, so ask a qualified adviser.

What usually delays a first payout?

Unfinished KYC, a breached consistency rule and a balance below the required buffer. Check all three before you submit.
